After reading this cool journal<da:thumb id="744492923"/> I wanted to make my own. This I am looking at biologically accurate and inaccurate elements portrayed in Cartoon Network's My Gym Partner's A Monkey. I like the show because it shares a few things in common with SpongeBob, Camp Lazlo, and Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, and unlike Camp Lazlo, its more animal focused. As you might already know, some accuracy has to be sacrificed for cartoon reasons. So here we go...

  • Even though Adam Lyon says he is not an animal, we humans (Homo sapiens) technically are, just highly evolved primates.
  • There is actually a lot of wrong things with Jake Spidermonkey whom I believe is a Brown spider monkey (Ateles hybridus) because of his color.
  • Second, real spider monkeys have more elongated bodies, and legs than Jake does, the arm and tail length are correct.
  • Jake has a well developed opposable thumbs, real spider monkeys have small thumbs
  • In "Meet The Spidermonkeys" The zoo's imformation plaque on the Spider monkey says they are from Africa. REALLY?? They really live in South America, more specifically Columbia and Venezulea
  • The biggest inaccuracy of all is that Jake vocalizes like a Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) Here is a video of a Spider monkey's REAL vocalization.
  •
  • Windsor the Western gorilla (Gorilla gorilla) has his scientific name as Kingus Kongus in the episode "Diplomatic Insanity" I guess for comedic reasons
  • The way Windsor speaks complex wording might reflect the fact of gorilla intelligence being very high.
  • Slips the Green tree python (Morelia viridis) has blond hair.
  • In general, snakes in cartoons use their tail as their arm and hand, while real snake tails a practically useless for that kind of use.
  • Also Slips' face looks too human.
  • The coloration of Lupe the Keel-billed toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus) seems correct, the wings and tail feathers of a real keel-billed toucan would have been more black than dark green, unless the show represented the green as iridescence.
  • Lupe seems to fly in place at times, the only bird known to do that are hummingbirds.
  • In one episode, Lupe cawed loudly which sort of reminded me of the vocalization featured in DK Dinosaur Hunter CD-ROM of Compsognathus. Toucans make soft croaks in real life.
  • Lupe has a Columbian accent which reflects her actual wild range.
  • Ingrid the Masai giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchii) is much too tall to be 18 ft, neck is overlengthed, body is too small, and one ossicone horn is taller than the other.
  • Vigil Bull Sharkowski is a bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas). And is appropriate to make him the school bully because this is the third type of shark that can bite humans. The two others are great white and tiger shark.
  • If sharks like Bull were to walk on land, they would have a hard time doing it.
  • Principal Pixiefrog's actual species is an African bullfrog (Pyxicephalus adspersus) which pixie frog reflects his scientific name.
  • Pixie frogs are the second largest frogs in the world, Principal Pixiefrog seems smaller than the real creature.
  • Mrs. Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) is a female warthog and that might explain why see lacks the warts. Even if she was a real warthog, females would have smaller warts than males.
  • The type of gazelle that Nurse gazelle is is unknown, but I vote for Grant's gazelle (Nanger granti).
  • Henry Armadillo's Cajun accent, reflects that he is a nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus) however unlike the three-banded, cannot roll up in a ball like Henry.
  • Coach Gills is a goldfish (Carassius auratus) with a short body.
  • Unlike Miss Chameleon real panther chameleons (Furcifer pardalis) change color only for communication and temperature, not for camouflage as once believed.
  • Here's a big one - Even though Mr. Hornbill is named Mr. Hornbill since he is a Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) Real hornbills are birds! (Mrs. Warthog even mentioned it in one episode.)
  • Mrs. Tusk the Indian elephant (Elephas maximus indicus) is pink. Elephants are usually grayish-brown.
  • Every thing about Mr. Mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx) seems accurate. Except the long head hair.
  • Phineas Porpoise is most likely a bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus).
  • Margret Rhino is a Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) and she IS the most threatened rhino and not what Mr. Hornbill said in "I Fear Pretties". (there is no such thing as a Vietnamese rhino!)
  • LaTanya Hippopotamus' (Hipopotamus amphibius) aggressive nature is extremely accurate.
  • Joanie Ox (probably a Asian Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) ) lacks horns.
  • James Ant is a fire ant who's Latin name on the episode Diplomtic Insanity is Insectus smallus! Real one  - Solenopsis geminata. His red color hints this identity.
  • Dickie Sugarjumper is really a Sugar Glider (Petaurus breviceps)
  • Endugu Elaphant is supposed to be a African elephant (Loxodonta africana) but he lacks tusks.
  • Superintendent Wolverine (Gulo gulo) is a tough little guy, as a real wolverine is! The problem he is also over-anthropomorphised.
  • Coach Gill's assisant Horace is most likely the endangered black-footed ferret. (Mustela nigripes)
  • David Coppertrout is a Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) which are not completely pink in real life.
  • Mr Blowhole's classroom has Humpback whale moans in the background, weird considering the fact he's a Killer whale (Orcinus orca) Which is a dolphin by the way. He also lacks the white eye spot.
  • Mr Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) has upper body strength. Cheetahs in general are more slender for fast running speed.
  • Hazel Peacock (Pavo cristatus) is actually a peahen, (a female peafowl) so she wouldn't have spreaded her tail feathers like a male.
  • Rufus the Spotted Hyena (Crocuta crocuta) laughs to survive (according to Windsor, even though he made it up for teaching Adam a lesson for making Rufus cry) Real hyenas laugh as a form of communication.
  • If a Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) wears braces, like the one in the show, it definitely wouldn't work
  • Mrs Loon (the art teacher) doesn't look at all like a common loon (Gavia immer) and resembles more like a corvid (crows and allies). I think most of all a blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata).
  • According to tvtropes.org, the zoo that all the animals at Charles Darwin Middle School are from might be based on the Los Angeles Zoo or San Diego Zoo. The website says Glendale, California.
In conclusion this is another one of Cartoon Network's shows from 2005 that I like a lot. And this fact filled journal I thought was fun to do!

So this is technically my early Thanksgiving/Christmas present to you all.

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and all that :)

I just, just found out that just like in 2015 that Apatosaurus and Brontosaurus as separate genera, with the latter being valid again, this year Troodon and Stenonychosaurus got split and Stenonychosaurus is valid again under the species S. inequalis.

I just had no idea, I guesss I owe Greg Paul an apology!!!!!

Wow! So far we've been cracking mysteries on the Tyrant lizard king a lot for the year of 2017. New Discoveries are being made every 2 months about the dinosaur. Let's see what we found out so far.

March 2017: T. rex had no lips and teeth bare all like crocs.

May 2017: T. rex was a bone crusher, with the most powerful bite of any creature on Earth.

June 2017: T. rex was covered mostly in scales, not feathers.

8 hours ago!: T. rex was not a capable runner!

That's right. The University of Manchester did bio-mechanical research on T rex's legs and found out you can outrun a T. rex. The computer models shows it didn't do great running. But it is still a massive hunter, using the jaws to kill prey.

It just goes to show that dinosaur science is still growing every year, incredible!
